Talking America's Funniest Videos vs. Disney Vacation Club

If anyone watched AFV's $100,000 final last night, you would have also noticed that one of the other prizes awarded the winners was a 48 year membership to The Disney Vacation Club. I got to thinking about it after the show and realized that this has to be one of the biggest lead generation efforts ever put forth by a developer.
With a whole lot of fan fare and hype, Disney had an audience of millions last night. It would appear they were a major sponsor of the show (at least the one last night). As part of the process, every viewer was invited to register their own video for the next contest, but if I'm not mistaken, they were also invited to win another sweepstake for another 48 year Disney Vacation Club membership. I was left wondering a couple of things.
1. Imagine how many millions of leads this generated for their sales department. It reminded me of the beautiful Jaguar or Lexus you see sitting around the malls all year long with a rope around them. Outside of each rope are great big tables with registration forms strewn all over them. Fill one out, drop it in the ballot box and you are registered to win the car. Unbeknownst (I love making up cool words) to most, that by merely completing the form and putting it in the box, they have also agreed to have someone contact them about the timeshare program that is sponsoring the car give-away. So Disney went mainstream on this one. No malls, no cars, just the Internet, millions of viewers an a Terms and Conditions that everyone agrees to when they sign up that allows them to call each and every one of them about their vacation packages. Go Disney!!!
2. I wonder, too, if the folks that won this cool prize will have to pay the maintenance fees associated with the package or if they also one 48 years of maintenance fees. If it was the package and the maintenance fees, along with $100,000 man that was a nice prize!!!
